Idling Away the Day

I’m sitting outside my house typing away to capture this lovely moment. There’s a swirling spring breeze circling where I sit, that only has softness to it. I rather like that. It’s the sort of wind that makes me want to stay where I am, to enjoy it.
Bees are buzzing around me as a woodpecker flies up to the apple tree. As I feel the gentle wind touch the right side of my face, I turn to see a Cabbage White butterfly flittering through the bushes. I notice some new flowers over at the far end of the garden, so I go now to take a look at them. To get down low and see the world from a beetle’s perspective.
One moment…
I notice how the air is filled with the scent of blossoms. My favourite time of year, when every inhalation is filled with flowers. New shoots of sage are growing in a pot, and things that I have forgotten about are also taking root. It’s a good time of year to walk barefoot and really feel the energy pouring through the earth into the body.
It’s the kind of day when I like to follow my shadow to see where it takes me.
Time doesn’t feel wasted on days like this. The breeze says, "Slow down. What's the hurry?”
For a moment, I watch a wasp drinking rainwater from a salad bowl I left out on the patio. It’s now flown onto a stone I placed in the herb garden. Enjoying the bright sunlight on its wings. Nothing about it seems rushed. Now it comes to look at me, and then heads to a patch of dandelions.
Oh my gosh. The wind blows over from the left. The smell of cherry blossoms is incredible. There’s no what shall I do next? about this moment. There’s just enjoying it. And although I’m typing to share this with you, I’m still loving the beauty for what it is. I don’t feel like I am missing something or am late for someone. It’s just right.
Right, at this moment.
Like the bird singing a sweet song somewhere in front of me, it is good at doing that. And the breeze is quite fine at swirling around, making trees sway. This bee is rather adept at darting between flowers and enjoying a good look at them, then flying into its nest (in the eaves of my roof), where they will leave in a few weeks.
So, I switch off now. Slow down. As I notice a plane streaking through the cloudless sky. Taking people to their destinations.
