Become a little monk or nun
A little monk or nun is simply someone who chooses to walk through life with a little more attention, wonder, kindness, and lightness.
They aren't looking to leave home and become monastics, but they feel a calling to a simpler, more contemplative life, even if that is in the middle of busy work, family demands, struggles to pay the mortgage, and doing daily household chores.
Becoming a little monk or nun is a constant reminder to gaze out of the window sometimes, or simply to drink your tea and do nothing else.
It is to enrich life while not avoiding it. While people might rush along a city street, their minds filled with errands and schedules, a little monk stops to observe a wildflower growing in the cracks of the path. So, if that resonates with you, here's what to do.
Your next steps
Make a short personal declaration to Life/the Universe of how you wish to be from this day onward. How being a little monk or nun will make a difference. You might choose to walk more slowly and stop often to notice the little things in life. Check out our little vows and blog posts for ideas.
Once done, you are a little monk or nun. Welcome!
There's no novice period, no membership fee, no details to pass on, no robes to buy, and no scripture to read (though you are welcome to do what feels right to you).
Our Virtual Monastery
The monastery is a quiet place. Sometimes people come to share their small observations about life - maybe they noticed a fox or left a flower on a neighbour's wall. If you'd like to join the conversation, you are welcome to visit us at the link below:
